About the role:

​

The Senior Product Development Engineering Lead will take ownership of the entire development process for a radiation imaging medical device, driving both innovation and quality. This position will lead the development of new features and improvements, guiding and mentoring team members to achieve project milestones. Key responsibilities include overseeing the design, prototyping, and testing of product enhancements, as well as maintaining and improving Research & Development (R&D) devices. The role also involves ensuring the seamless transfer of R&D advancements into manufacturing.

This role demands demonstrated expertise in systems engineering, system integration, and hands-on problem-solving within mechanical or electrical engineering domains. In addition, the engineer will assume full responsibility for all technology-related activity and product roadmap within the startup. As the primary engineering liaison between R&D and New Product Introduction (NPI), the individual will play a pivotal role in aligning development objectives with company goals, adapting to the dynamic nature of a start-up environment.

 

 

Responsibilities:

• Lead and document the development of designs, specifications, and requirements, ensuring comprehensive and clear documentation, including user manuals and technical guides.

• Research and ensure compliance with U.S. FDA requirements, developing systems and processes in line with regulatory standards to guarantee product safety and efficacy.

• Define and own system requirements, collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams to review and refine high-level component requirements, and ensuring alignment with overall system goals.

• Lead the integration of system components, working closely with cross-functional teams to define interfaces, integration considerations, and testing protocols, ensuring seamless collaboration across disciplines.

• Conduct risk analysis and proactively address potential issues, driving the team to develop robust solutions that enhance system reliability and safety.

• Take ownership of product strategy, contributing to initiatives that influence all aspects of the product life cycle, ensuring alignment with company goals.

Required Qualifications:

​

• Minimum 5 years' direct experience as an R&D and/or Product Development Engineer, preferably in the MedTech industry or with complex electromechanical hardware equipment of high capital, including experience with PET systems and product certification.

• Master’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Systems Engineering, Physics, or similar discipline is required; a PhD is desirable but not required, especially with a background in High Energy Physics (HEP), Instrumentation or related fields.

• Proven experience in software development, particularly in the context of integrating and troubleshooting complex electromechanical systems and related software.

• Demonstrated expertise in all phases of product development, from design and debugging to transitioning products to manufacturing, with a strong understanding of system electronics and the ability to isolate and debug hardware and software problems.

• Extensive experience with electrical test equipment, including logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, and digital multimeters.

• Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and a proactive, collaborative mindset, especially in dynamic start-up environments or international projects.

• Experience with the certification of medical products, including compliance with U.S. FDA requirements, and a solid understanding of the processes involved in achieving such certifications.

• Ability to work on your feet, standing for long periods, and safely lift up to 50 lbs.

• Willingness to travel occasionally for domestic or international projects as required.

• Must be able to communicate in English fluently.
